BlueMissionAA, through SPI, partnered with B2E CoLAB to deliver an engaging Blue Bioeconomy workshop for young people at Associação de Solidariedade da Zona das Fontaínhas in Porto.
The workshop used age-appropriate activities to introduce participants to sustainable marine resource applications. Youth aged 11-17 participated in interactive presentations and card games, developing innovative ideas using marine raw materials like algae and shells for food, energy, bioplastics, and cosmetics sectors. Younger children (up to age 10) explored ocean literacy through educational books and coloring activities.
SPI team members Igor Lopes, Elisa Frias-Bulhosa, and Lucas Lima facilitated the sessions alongside Hugo Barros from B2E CoLAB. The hands-on approach successfully engaged participants in creative thinking about marine sustainability while building foundational knowledge about ocean resources.
Partner organizations provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, confirming the workshop’s success in inspiring young people to view marine resources as foundations for sustainable innovation. The initiative demonstrates BlueMissionAA’s commitment to fostering ocean literacy and developing the next generation of environmental leaders across Europe.
