Overview
This session effectively captures the core technological overlap across F6S Blue Economy projects. We’ll explore how Unmanned Systems from I-SEAMORE and REMEDIES are used for surveillance and environmental monitoring. We’ll then dive into Digital Innovation and Advanced Monitoring with projects like iMermaid, which focuses on preventing chemical pollution, and ADT4Blue, which leverages AI and IoT to accelerate the Blue Economy. The EFFECTIVE project will showcase its Digital Twin for blue parks, and finally, AUTOASSESS will demonstrate its use of AI and robotics for safe vessel inspections. This discussion connects all of these innovations directly to the sustainable management and protection of our Ocean and Waters.
Programme
14:00
Welcome, Ana Faria, BlueMissionAA / AIR Centre
14:05
Project Showcases: Technologies in Action:
■ I-SEAMORE: Focus on integrated maritime surveillance leveraging UAVs, highlighting real-world demonstration and final event insights
■ AUTOASSES: A project co-funded by the EU that leverages AI and robotics to perform vessel inspections, removing human surveyors from dangerous and dirty confined areas, and reducing inspection costs by 80%.
■ Effective: (i) A digital twin demonstrator that provides insight in modelling data, observations and relevant information around selected blue parks, (ii) Seabots (one of the partners) can also present the use of their marine drone units
■ Remedies: Presenting underwater and aerial drones for environmental monitoring, specifically litter detection, and relevant biodegradable solutions
■ iMermaid: Highlighting sensor development for emerging contaminants and their remediation platform solutions
■ ADT4Blue: Discussing their focus on advanced digital ideas and open calls, illustrating how digital innovation can drive blue economy solutions

Vesna Kuralt
REMEDIES
Vesna Kuralt is the REMEDIES Project Manager and Leader of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development. In addition to leading a EU Horizon Europe project co-creating innovative solutions and technologies to monitor, collect, and prevent (micro)plastic waste in our ocean, she is experienced in co-designing various green and digital transition projects focused on human-centered innovation and community building contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. As an anthropologist with a PhD in Market Communication, she understands any change starts with people and is thus passionate about co-creating a movement aiming to restore our oceans and waters.

Giasmin Cecconi
iMERMAID
Giasmin Cecconi is an environmental chemist who works in the Research Center Department of the SMAT Group. SMAT manages the integrated water service of the Metropolitan City of Turin which is located in the north-west part of Italy, where is responsible for catching and treating drinking water, its distribution, then of the collection of resulting wastewater in the sewage system and its subsequent treatment. Last spring, SMAT hosted the first iMERMAID Project use case, during which two technologies focused on heavy metal contamination in wastewater were tested.

Serena Laschi
iMERMAID
Serena Laschi is a professor at the University of Florence (UNIFI) in the Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on the development of biosensors, particularly electrochemical biosensors, for a range of applications including environmental analysis, food safety, and medical diagnostics. She has contributed to numerous publications in her field.
