Mission Ocean Atlantic and Arctic Project

CLIMAREST

THE FOCUS

CLIMAREST is a Horizon Europe funded project supporting the goals of Mission Ocean by
tackling challenges to restoration in some of the most vulnerable and fragile ecosystems in Europe.

In numbers: 18 partners, 5 demo sites, €8.7 million

CLIMAREST will demonstrate innovative solutions for marine restoration in five different environments from the fjords in Svalbard, Norway in the Arctic to rocky substrates in Madeira, Portugal in the Atlantic. The project focuses on upscaling tools and protocols for marine and coastal ecosystem restoration and climate resilience, making them accessible to policymakers at various levels. The project develops economic, social, political, and cultural standards to improve climate resilience in the Arctic-Atlantic basin. By creating a holistic toolbox, CLIMAREST aims to identify synergies between solutions, promote stakeholder involvement, and provide frameworks for restoration, monitoring, and cost-benefit analysis of ecosystem services.
