RESTORESEAS is a Biodiversa+ project focused on delivering Nature-based Solutions to protect and restore marine biodiversity.
RESTORESEAS in numbers: 13 partners, 11 countries, €1.9 million
RESTORESEAS operates around the Atlantic Ocean, with partners from Europe, Africa, and South America, achieving a much more diverse perspective on restoration across the Atlantic. The project is focused on examining current and future trends in species distribution of kelp, corals, and seagrass in order to build indicators for ecosystem stability, with an aim of applying novel Nature-based Solutions to test the resilience of such ecosystems to climate change. RESTORESEAS also has a successful citizen engagement aspect, particularly in Portugal where fishers have been involved in a co-designed initiative to replant corals which have accidentally been harvested by fishing nets.
